A distraction-proof session is not a room where interruption becomes impossible. It is a block of time where the most predictable distractions have already been handled.

Define the finish line

“Work on the project” leaves too many decisions open. “Draft the introduction and outline three sections” gives attention somewhere specific to land.

Make the target visible before starting. If the work is uncertain, define the next question you need to answer.

Remove invitations to switch

Close unrelated tabs, silence nonessential notifications, and move the phone out of reach if it is not part of the task. Full-screen the primary tool when possible.

You do not need a perfect minimalist desk. You need fewer objects and signals offering an easier alternative.

Prepare for predictable needs

Bring water, connect power, open reference material, and choose the soundtrack in advance. These small preparations prevent legitimate needs from becoming exits.

Keep a capture note nearby. When an unrelated thought appears, write it down without acting on it.

Choose a realistic block

A session should be long enough to settle but short enough to trust. Start with 25–45 minutes if sustained work is unfamiliar. Longer blocks can grow from evidence, not ambition.

Use a visible ending. Knowing there is a boundary makes it easier to postpone distractions.

Protect re-entry

If interrupted, note the exact next action before turning away. At the end of the session, leave the same kind of breadcrumb for tomorrow.

The goal is not an unbroken heroic streak. It is faster recovery and fewer unnecessary switches. Read What Is a Flow State? for why these conditions matter.

A 60-second checklist

Write the outcome. Set the duration. Silence alerts. Close unrelated windows. Put one capture note beside you. Start the first concrete action.

Once those pieces are in place, stop optimizing the setup and do the work.

Turn the setup into one tap.

FlowLock combines a clear session timer, background audio, lock-screen controls, and six purpose-built states. Choose the state, set the time, and remove the phone from the decision loop.
